You may have spotted Central i-City as it rose bit by bit from the ground beside the Federal Highway. You probably wondered what it was, and why it was sitting next to i-City’s iconic buildings. Fast forward to early 2019, the Central i-City mall open its doors for our first visitors. The response from the people were overwhelming as they welcomed our new mall with open arms and broad smiles. At that time, Central i-City had yet to officially launch, as our tenants made their preparations, we were finally ready to go.
On 15th of June 2019, we were honored to have the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin to grace Central i-City’s opening.

Central i-City is the largest mall in Shah Alam –
- 940,000 square feet of retail space
- 350+ retail outlets.
- 6 levels.
- First Sogo department store outside of Kuala Lumpur
- First Village Grocer supermarket in Malaysia to feature Royal Thai Project products
- The largest Samsung Onyx screen in the world at TGV Cinemas
We were able to achieve all this thanks to our partner from Thailand – Central Pattana Public Company Ltd (CPN), who is Thailand’s largest retail developer. With a 60-40% share, Central i-City is CPN’s first international joint venture project. As such, CPN had spent considerable efforts for the past five years studying various countries before coming to a decision.

“We finally selected Malaysia and i-City because we saw it as the best potential growth area as we are confident that this mall, together with other integrated components of i-City will drive it towards fulfilling its Golden Triangle vision within a decade,” said Mr Preecha Ekkunagul, President and Chief Executive Officer of CPN Thailand.
With CPN bringing in their valuable experience of over 40 years in retail development in Thailand, together, we strive together to create a strong sense of community and to bring economic prosperity that will enrich lives and neighbourhoods.
So what exactly is the Golden Triangle of Selangor? A Golden Triangle is a geographical term that consists of three locations, linked together in a triangle, signifying its large potential of growth. In Selangor, the Golden Triangle is linked between Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam and Klang, with i-City located right in the middle, hence the name – i-City, the Heart of Selangor’s Golden Triangle.

The Chief Minister of Selangor, YAB Amirudin Shari had recently identified i-City as part of the Golden Triangle in Selangor, and had the foresight of the area becoming a catalyst in speeding up the development of Selangor, as well as presenting an excellent economic space, benefiting not only the people of Selangor, but also Malaysia’s economy as a whole. He also described Central i-City as Shah Alam and Selangor’s latest landmark which will realize the state administration’s aim to make Selangor a ‘Smart State’ by 2025.
According to Tan Sri Lim Kim Hong, the Executive Chairman of i-Berhad, and the master developer of the burgeoning i-City Ultrapolis, the opening of Central i-City Mall will continue to push the boundaries yet again as the mall will help transform the capital city of Selangor into a regional shopping destination. The mall will also complement the next phase of i-City’s development, which includes two segments. ‘Work Places of the Future’ – one which inspires innovation through the ability to focus, socialize, learn, collaborate and rejuvenate under a single space, and ‘Living Spaces of the Future’ – one which offers collaborative living spaces with quality facilities and office-standard technology.

The Central i-City Mall will also be augmented by 150,000 sq ft of centralWalk high-street retail, offering lifestyle-altering experiences to visitors patronizing i-City. Together with i-City’s Leisure Theme Park, the convention centre and hotels, i-City would be able to offer a whole range of leisure and entertainment choices for visitors in the near future.
In conclusion, another piece falls into place in i-City’s Ultrapolis puzzle. We look forward to what is to come, so come join us in our journey.
